This Privacy Policy explains how Rumor Social (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile application and related services.
Finding friends from contacts is optional. If you choose to use it, we read emails and phone numbers from your device address book, convert them to one-way hashes, and upload those hashes to our servers. We compare the hashes only to hashes of emails and phone numbers already associated with Rumor Social accounts so we can show you which contacts already have an account and let you follow them.
Matching names stay on your device and are not uploaded. We do not upload contact names, addresses, or your full contact list, and we do not keep an uploaded copy of your address book. Hashes are used for that lookup, not for advertising, and we do not sell or share them with other companies.
You can stop this at any time by turning off Contacts access in your device settings.
We use this information to provide social features, sync content across devices, enable messaging, calls, groups, marketplace listings, and optional payment requests, keep the community safe, prevent abuse, and improve reliability.
We do not sell your personal information.
We do not process, hold, or transfer money for payment requests or marketplace deals. Those happen outside Rumor Social through third-party apps or arrangements you choose.
If you add a Venmo, Cash App, or PayPal.me handle, we store it on your profile so you can send payment requests in one-to-one chats. Opening a payment link leaves Rumor Social and uses that provider’s app or website under their own terms and privacy policy. “Mark paid” is an honor-system status inside the chat; it does not confirm that money moved.
Content you post may be visible to other Rumor Social users according to product design (for example public posts, private accounts, group membership, and chat participants). Payment handles you save and payment requests you send are visible to people in that conversation.
If you use Find friends, hashed contact emails and phone numbers are sent to our backend (Supabase) so we can return matching Rumor Social accounts.
We use service providers such as Supabase for authentication, database, and file storage. Payment providers (Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, and similar) are independent services; we do not control their processing.
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect users’ safety.
We retain account and content data while your account is active. You can delete your account in Settings. Deletion removes your profile and associated app content from our production systems, subject to short-term backups and legal holds when required.
Removing a payment handle from Settings stops new requests from using it; past chat messages may still show the handle that was used at the time.
Rumor Social is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 created an account, contact us so we can delete it.
You can edit your profile and payment handles, report content, block users, sign out, and delete your account from Settings. You can revoke camera, microphone, photo, contacts, location, notification, and biometric permissions in your device settings.
